Secrets of Lamphun

‘Secrets of Lamphun’ is a 2 day cycling excursion that takes you through the enchanting province of Lamphun.

During this unforgettable cycling excursion over peaceful country roads, passing by rice fields, fruit orchards and beautiful temples in small villages you will get to know the rich cultural background of this first Lanna kingdom.

The route goes for a big part trough these small communities where we see the daily activities of the villagers and avoid most of the traffic.

Day 1: ±55km

The tour starts every Thursday at 09:00 hrs from our office Baan Nai Fun 1 in Pa-Dead and takes us southwards following the Ping River over quiet roads and trough small villages while cycling and enjoying the beautiful changing surroundings.

In Lamphun we pass by cycling 2 beautiful Dvaravati styled chedi’s.
These chedi’s are known for holding the relics of Queen Cham-Devi her horse and elephant and are more than 1000 years old.

To learn more about the history of this city we visit the Haripunchai museum that will give us more insight of this remarkable place. After this visit it is time for a delicious Thai lunch.

After lunch we have a look at a local temple where older woman keep them selves occupied with silk weaving.

We continue our trip by visiting one of the most revered temples in Northern Thailand: Wat Harinpunchai.

After visiting and photographing this beautiful temple we leave the city behind us.

We continue our discovery tour trough rice fields and fruit orchards till we reach our idyllic situated resort where we spend the night.

Day 2: ±60km

The second day we start at 8:30 from our resort and we cycle through a district that is not often visited by tourists so don’t be surprised if the locals want to talk to you or show you there merchandise.

The whole day you will be enjoying the beautiful paths that are leading us from one village to another. In these village’s we see the daily activities of the villagers like making rice wine, rice noodles and Sa paper.

While cycling trough these villages we discover several chedi’s and ruins, some of them are even more than 700 years old.

We visit a temple that is well known for having the footprints of the lord Buddha.

After this visit we continue our trip and visit a family atelier that makes porcelain dolls. This family atelier is already for more than 50 years in business and the owner is always very proud to show his unique collection of thousands porcelain dolls.

After lunch the route brings us back to the Ping River which we follow north this time, over quiet lanes and country roads until we reach the handicraft village Baan Tawai. Here we have a cold drink while you can stroll around the many shops that produce and sell many different kinds of handy crafts.

With the last stop we visit a local market where we will have some explaining and tasting of the local snacks and fruits before we cycle the last part back to the office where we will arrive at approximately 4:30pm.
