We love to see you smile!

Reviews show that clients are happy with our tours in Bangkok, Ayutthaya and Chiang Mai. The fact that they often cycle a second or third tour with us, confirms that. Right after the end, we look for a happy and satisfied smile…

In Thailand, smiling is the way to communicate with each other!

The Thai smile – The ‘Jim’ – is world famous. Thailand isn’t called the Land of Smiles for nothing.

Wherever you look, you will see friendly faces. The Thai smile at you. It’s in the genes.

In the West, a smile is a spontaneous and mostly happy exception, but for the Thai it’s a structural way of communicating.

The smile is even more expressive than words. When a Thai says ‘Yes’, it’s only a true yes when it’s supported by a positive smile.

Be suspicious of the ‘Yes’ with a smile that’s looks like a ‘I don’t know’ or ‘Maybe’. It’s probably a polite no.

The smile on the street usually means something different than ‘I like you’. If you accidentally look a passing Thai right in the eye, the following smile really doesn’t mean more than ‘Sorry for staring’.

Scientists recognize as many as 12 main smiles:

1: The polite smile

2: The admiring smile

3: The sorry-but-you-are-not-right smile

4: The sorry-for-this-unpleasant-situation smile

5: The sorry-really-can’t-do-anything smile

6: The it’s-so-bad-that-I-can-only-smile smile

7: The sad covering smile

8: The happy and satisfied smile

9: The won against rival smile

10: The arrogant smile

11: The evil smile

12: The I-laugh-but-I-don’t-want-to smile

At Recreational Bangkok Biking we hope for smile number 8 after cycling one of our Bike Tours! We’d love to see you!
